In October 2012, Genevieve Miller, author of Vampire Knits, approached me and asked if I had any ideas for her new book of knits inspired by fairy tales. I was ecstatic and honored, having loved fairy tales since I was a kid and currently being a big fan of the tv show Once Upon A Time. I sent off a few ideas, and she chose my Little Mermaid-inspired crescent shawl.
So here she is, Siren Shawl! Feel like you’re under the sea when you’re wearing a mermaid-inspired crescent shawl. It is worked from the bottom up beginning with a picot cast on. The Estonian lace border with nupps mimics flowing seaweed. The body of the shawl is worked in Stockinette stitch in short rows. A row of eyelets divides the border and body and also finishes the top edge of the shawl. A fingering weight semi-solid yarn in shades of aqua blue completes the look.
